Sandane
Sandane is a public table tennis table designed for an urban park. The frame is made from simple steel plates painted with dark reflective paint. A chain of four wooden spheres works as a crossbeam. The spheres reflect in the paint, so a continuous chain appears to pass through the metal, making the structure seem translucent and light. The metal frame is built from only three unique pieces, which simplifies production and assembly. The design gives a robust piece of street furniture sculptural qualities.
Sandane Ping Pong Table by Torgeir Stige has been identified as an innovative representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Sandane Ping Pong Table earned the Silver A' Design Award in Street Furniture Design in 2020. The A' Street and City Furniture Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade that celebrates superior design of benches, bollards, bus shelters, bicycle racks, litter bins, planters, signage, lighting fixtures and more.
